Julie Goldman Madeleine Boireau '17

Washington and Lee, as a whole, surprises me more and more every day. A highlight of this year, by far, was being able to watch Comedian Julie Goldman perform in the Stackhouse Theater during W&L PRIDE Week. Julie Goldman exemplifies two of Hillel's core values, "creating a pluralistic, welcoming and inclusive environment" and "balancing the need for both a distinctly Jewish and universal human identity." As a proud, Queer, Jewish woman, not afraid to be herself and encourage others to do the same, we couldn't imagine a better representative for Hillel and the Rockbridge community.

I can say with confidence that so much laughter had yet to fill Stackhouse Theater until that day. Words were said that I would never have imagined would be spoken on the Washington and Lee Campus. This event was probably one of the most successful Hillel has ever had. With the Stackhouse completely full, there had to have been approximately 200 people present. It felt great to see students and faculty so supportive of diversity on the W&L campus. Hillel Director, Megan McLean, worked with Rallie Snowden and the LGBTQ resource to include Washington and Lee on Julie Goldman's college tour. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion also cosponsored. Hillel International, Keshet, and OUTmedia sponsored the tour. We can't wait to work more with Rallie and the LGBTQ center to bring more events like this to W&L!
