Placement Testing for Classics

Welcome to Washington and Lee!  We in the Classics Department hope that your time here will be challenging and enjoyable.  We ask you to take the following short placement test, to help us decide which Latin class will suit you best

Do you need to take this test?  Take this test only if (1) you have studied Latin in high school; AND (2) you plan to study Latin while at Washington and Lee; AND (3) have not scored at least 5 in the Latin AP test.    If the above describes you, then please write out the forms indicated, and then translate the following passages at sight and explain briefly the underlined forms.  We realize that you are used to translating passages only after thorough preparation. Do the best that you can.  It is more helpful to us if you make an intelligent guess than if you write nothing. We have tried to arrange the passages in order of increasing difficulty. Take no more than one hour.   Once you have completed and uploaded the test,  Classics faculty will have a look and make a recommendation for the Latin level that makes most sense for you to take.  The results will be available to you during orientation week.
