World Language Major and Minor Assessment Testing

Proficiency level assessments for majors and minors in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish are conducted during the latter part of the winter term at Washington and Lee University. Testing for Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish covers four skills- reading, writing, oral comprehension, and speaking. Testing for the German major and minor covers only reading, comprehension, and written language usage. The department chairs and the director of the Global Discovery Laboratories (GDL) will notify the students of testing times and will provide guidelines for testing created by the GDL. Testing is administered and monitored by staff within the Global Discovery Laboratories, and results are reported to department heads for voluntary discussion with students upon request.

Questions concerning testing frequency, format, and procedures should be sent to the director of the GDL at GDL@wlu.edu.
