Patrick Wright, a senior from Tampa, Florida, is studying to be an engineer with an interest in the German language.


The German and Russian Department at Washington and Lee will present its annual German play Friday and Saturday evenings, March 11th and 12th at 7:00 PM in the Wilson Recital Hall in the Lenfest Center.

Getting Outdoors with German major, Lenny Enkhbold '17

Lenny Enkhbold, a junior at Washington and Lee University, from Fairfax, Virginia, who leads pre-orientation Appalachian Adventure trips and organizes climbing, horseback riding, rafting, hiking and other campus Outing Club trips, has been selected one of 13 founding members of the Merrell College Ambassadors program from colleges around the country.

Sarah-Jean Vallon '14

Sarah Jean Vallon, a senior at Washington and Lee received a Fellowship for next year through the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals. She will intern in Germany in the field of Journalism and Mass Communications. The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals program offers two months of intensive German language training in Germany (no prior German language knowledge required), four months of classroom instruction at a German university or college of applied sciences, and a five-month internship in each participant’s career field.

Katie Jarrell '14

Katie Jarrell '14, a German major, is doing an internship with the Shepherd Internship Program working to benefit disadvantaged communities and members of society. Katie will be working at the Delta Area Health Education Center in Helena, Arkansas, where she will serve for eight weeks.

Ginger Sun '13

Ginger Sun '13, a German major, received a Johnson Opportunity Grant to do math research this summer. She will then attend the Budapest Mathematics Semesters program (BSM) in Hungary. BSM is the most prestigious international program for undergraduate students of mathematics.

Lauren Schultz '13

Lauren Schultz '13, a German minor, will be attending Stanford next year to pursue a PhD in geology. Lauren is the recipient of the Lena T. Stevens Award for graduating geology majors to help cover graduate school expenses.
