Investment Banking Boot Camp, Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co., Summer 2017

I participated in an Investment Banking Boot Camp hosted by Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co, a boutique firm that specializes in upstream M&A and acquisition & divestiture. During my short time at TPH, I attended seminars outlaying the different arms of an investment bank (i.e. asset management, sales and trading, etc.), the different products generated by investment banks (i.e. mergers and acquisitions, debt capital markets, equity capital markets, and financial restructuring), and the different verticals covered by energy focused groups (i.e. upstream, midstream, A&D, and oilfield services). At the culmination of my experience, I produced a pseudo-CIM (i.e. Confidential Information Memorandum) for Helmerich & Payne, a premier contract drilling OFS company focused on domestic, onshore drilling. Ultimately, the final deliverable summarized H&P's three segments (i.e. domestic onshore, offshore, and international onshore), outlaid operational strengths and risks, and included high-level valuations (e.g. discounted cash flow analyses and various comparable analyses). While this was a corporate finance position, the firm, which prides itself on its unconventional, geologically-drive analyses, highly valued my geoscience background; as I have gained further exposure to other firms similar to TPH, I find that energy coverage groups are progressively seeking out more interns and analysts with geoscience backgrounds.
