Pre-Dental Club

The Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club intends to assist Washington and Lee University pre-dental students in their overall preparation for dental school and a career in dentistry. The Pre-Dental Club also aims to promote good oral hygiene and dental awareness at Washington and Lee University and the surrounding community.

Constitution

Article 1:  Name of Organization
1.01.      The name of the organization shall be The Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club.  

Article 2:  Mission Statement
2.01.    The Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club is a student-run organization, which intends to assist Washington and Lee University pre-dental students in their overall preparation for dental school and a career in dentistry.  It fosters the interests and welfare of students pursuing careers in dentistry.  It does so by providing students with information, instruction, encouragement, and services.  

Article 3:  Objectives and Purposes
3.01.    The purposes for which the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club is to be organized shall be consistent with the aims and objectives of an education pursued at Washington and Lee University.  No purpose or objective of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club shall be in conflict with applicable state or federal laws presently in force or hereafter enacted.
3.02.    The specific purposes and objectives which the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club shall be organized to pursue include:   Serving Washington and Lee University undergraduate students pursuing or interested in pursuing a career in dentistry. Preparing Washington and Lee University undergraduate students for the dental school application process, dental school, and a career in dentistry.   Networking with pre-dental students, dental students, dental professionals, and related faculty.  Volunteering and engaging in dental-related service activities to benefit Washington and Lee University and the surrounding community.
3.03.    Hazing practices within the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club are prohibited pursuant to Virginia State laws and Washington and Lee University policies.  

Article 4:  Membership
4.01.    Membership in the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club shall be open to all members of the Washington and Lee University community without regard to race, color, creed, sex, physical ability, sexual orientation, or national origin.  The organization must have a minimum of four undergraduate Members.  All Members must remain in good standing (academic, financial, student conduct) with Washington and Lee University.
4.02.    Membership in the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club shall be determined by attendance at meetings and activities of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club.  Members must attend at least fifty percent (50%) of all meetings and activities and must maintain a minimum of a 2.5 undergraduate GPA to remain in good standing with the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club.  All Members shall have equal rights and privileges with respect to the election of the Officers of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club.
4.03.    Termination of Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club Membership status shall occur due to: §  Withdrawal or removal from Washington and Lee University for any reason §  Failure to remain in good standing (academic, financial, student conduct) with either Washington and Lee University or the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club  

Article 5:  Officers and Duties
5.01.    The Officers of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club shall consist of a President, a Vice President, a Treasurer, a Secretary, and a faculty Advisor to the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club.
5.02.    No non-collegiate undergraduate student shall be eligible to be an Officer of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club. 
5.03.    To run for an Officer position, a candidate must have and maintain a minimum of a 3.0 undergraduate GPA and be in good standing (academic, financial, student conduct) with Washington and Lee University.
5.04.    Any undergraduate student eligible to be an Officer of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club shall not be permitted to hold more than one office in the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club at any one time. 
5.05.    Officer elections are to be held in the last weeks of Winter Term each year in order to allow for an Officer transitioning period during Spring Term.
5.06.    Candidates for Officer positions may be nominated or may self-nominate with at least one second motion at the meeting immediately prior to Officer elections.  Candidates may run for a maximum of two positions and may present a speech for each position.
5.07.    The Officers of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club shall be elected by majority vote of the Members present and shall serve a one-year term of Office (until the next Officers are elected).  A list of the Officers shall be provided to Washington and Lee University following the election.
5.08.    The President shall call all meetings of the Officers and/or Membership, and shall serve as chairman of such meetings.  In addition, the President shall, with the advice of his Officers, plan and coordinate the events to be sponsored by the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club; with the Treasurer, prepare and present an annual budget request (if applicable), and shall in all events serve as a liaison with Washington and Lee University.
5.09.    The Vice President shall assume the responsibilities of the President in the absence of the President.  In addition, the Vice President shall perform other duties as the President may assign from time to time.
5.10.    The Treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club and shall be allowed to request checks or purchase orders on behalf of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club.  The Treasurer, with the President, shall prepare and present any budget requests to Washington and Lee University Executive Committee.  The Officers shall insure that all funds are properly kept within the Washington and Lee University accounting system.
5.11.    The Secretary shall be responsible for recording minutes at each meeting, providing the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club with weekly emails highlighting Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club events (educational, social, service, etc.), and maintaining membership records.
5.12.    The Advisor to the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club must be either a faculty member or administrator of Washington and Lee University.  The Advisor shall provide guidance and administrative assistance.
5.13.    The Officers shall prepare a program of events to be sponsored by the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club in forthcoming semesters.
5.14.    Any Officer of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club may resign at any time by delivering a written notice of such resignation to the President, or in the case of the resignation of the President, to the Vice President.
5.15.    Any Officer of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club may be removed from his/her Officer position due to misuse of funds, failure to fulfill duties, misconduct, or inability to adhere to Washington and Lee University rules and regulations.  A motion must be put into effect by at least three Officers or four non-Officer Members; to remove an Officer, a two-thirds majority vote is necessary from all Members present.  The Officer facing impeachment will be given an opportunity to speak on his/her behalf prior to the voting for impeachment.
5.16.    At the next regular meeting of the Membership of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club, an election shall be held to elect an Officer to fill the position made vacant by such resignation or removal.  

Article 6:  Benefit to Washington and Lee University and Surrounding Community
6.01.    The Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club will promote oral hygiene at Washington and Lee University and in the surrounding community.  It will do so through focused initiatives such as providing information to individuals in order to promote healthier dental habits.  Therefore, it will assist in creating a healthier community, both at Washington and Lee University and the surrounding region.
6.02.    The Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club will hold fundraisers for dental-related charities at its discretion in order to support a community with good oral health.
6.03.    The Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club endeavors to assist the local community as a group through direct volunteer services - primarily, but not exclusively, related to dentistry.
6.04.    The Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club will help prepare Washington and Lee University undergraduate students for dental school and a career in dentistry, which will contribute to the formation of a strong, well-prepared medical community.
6.05.    The Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club will help create a unified network of Washington and Lee University pre-dental students, which will facilitate pre-dental students' aspirations to become informed dental applicants.  

Article 7:  Miscellaneous
7.01.    This Constitution shall have been presented to the Membership of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club and shall be ratified by a majority vote thereof.
7.02.    This Constitution may be amended or repealed by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of the Members of the Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club.
7.03.    Any amendment to this Constitution shall be attached hereto and made a part hereof for all purposes.
7.04.    The Washington and Lee University Pre-Dental Club shall review this Constitution for any necessary changes or additions at the beginning of each Winter Semester.
