LIFE is a student led organization which provides credible information on health issues to W&L students. The mission is to advocate for positive healthy lifestyles and to serve as positive role models to adopt healthy cultural norms.

Constitution

History

  • LIFE was founded in 1996 by 2 students as the first student peer health organization at Washington and Lee University.

Mission Statement

  • LIFE is a student led organization which provides credible information on health issues to W&L students. The mission is to advocate for positive healthy lifestyles and to serve as positive role models to adopt healthy cultural norms.

Requirements of a LIFE member

  • A LIFE member must educate himself/herself with relevant health information to provide guidance and information for Washington and Lee students.
  • A LIFE member must exercise good judgment in dealing with confidentiality.
  • A LIFE member must be a role model in his/her use of alcohol and other drugs and with other health issues.

LIFE's Benefits to W&L

  • The LIFE organization performs a wide variety of health education services for the W&L community. LIFE promotes wellness and advocates healthy lifestyle choices for students. LIFE works closely with the Office of Health Promotion and presents programs, speakers, and awareness weeks in numerous areas. In addition, LIFE may work in collaboration with other student groups such as Peer Counselors, RAs, Active Minds, and SPEAK.

Organization of Leadership

  • LIFE has 4 leaders who act as the leadership team with 1 being the President.
  • LIFE Leaders are in charge of running of meetings and facilitating projects proposed by our members.
  • Selection of new leaders is held in April. Those seeking a leadership position must undergo an application process and the new leaders are chosen by current leaders in consultation with the advisor, Jan Kaufman.
