Washingtones

The Purpose of Washingtones is to provide a judgment free zone to facilitate improvement and harnessing a passion for music between students with varying degrees of musical background and experience. The club is intended to provide a space for students who want to experience being in an a Capella group on campus even if they have never sung before and grant them the opportunity to lead projects within the group such as arranging a piece and running rehearsals.

Constitution

Preamble

This Constitution is the document by which we in Washingtones will abide by in running a Co-ed a Capella group on W&L's campus. Every member shall adhere to these provisions and applicable University policies. We plan to foster an environment that allows for students of various singing capabilities a chance to learn how to sing in a group and learn the joy of growing as performers and possibly as arrangers/composers.

Article I: Name

The Name of the Organization is Washingtones

Article II: Purpose

The Purpose of Washingtones is to provide a judgment free zone to facilitate improvement and harnessing a passion for music between students with varying degrees of musical background and experience. The club is intended to provide a space for students who want to experience being in an a Capella group on campus even if they have never sung before and grant them the opportunity to lead projects within the group such as arranging a piece and running rehearsals.

Article III: Non-Discrimination Policy

Washingtones does not discriminate based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or age.

Article IV: General Membership

A member in good standing is defined as a member who attends 85% of Washingtones rehearsals and is participating in performances unless a valid excuse is given for absence.

Article V: Officers

The officers serving as the Executive Board shall be the President & Treasurer, and will serve a term of one year or until their successors are elected.

Section A: President

1. Schedule Rehearsal Times

a. Gather schedule information from members to decide on the appropriate meeting times.
b. Reserve Rooms for Rehearsal.

2. Contact leaders of other Student Organizations to schedule performance dates for events held on Campus
3. To act as a delegate to the W&L administration
4. To serve as a spokesperson for Washingtones

Section B: Treasurer

1. Make budget
2. Allocate funds
3. Record hours for Accompanist and give out disbursement checks
4. Get swipe machine when necessary

Article VI Eligibility:

All General Members in good standing who have maintained a minimum 2.0 GPA are eligible for an officer position. There are no limits on the number of terms a member can serve.

Article VIII: Election

Elections will occur during the next general body meeting following the nomination of officers. The members in good standing present will vote by using a secret ballot system.

Article IX: Succession Clause

In the event that the President must leave office for any reason, the Treasurer will take the office of President and a new Treasurer will be elected by the general body. In the event that the Treasurer must leave office the general body will elect someone new to fill the office.

Article X: Term of Office

The official term is one year or until successors are elected.

Article XI: Removal from Office

Any member of office can be removed from office by two-thirds vote. The officer in question has the right to defend their actions. Following the removal from office the general members will nominate and elect a member in good standing to finish the remove party's remaining term of office. This procedure will also be implemented whenever there is a vacant office.

Article XII: Amendments

Amendments to this constitution shall be adopted by a two-thirds vote of the members present at a regular meeting following the meeting at which the proposed amendment was distributed. Distribution of any amendment proposal must be approved by the officers.
