History of Organization

Since its foundation, Club Tennis was active on and off for several years, but had stopped in 2005 due to lack of interested members. Club Tennis was restarted at Washington and Lee in 2013, and we have had more members every year. Last Fall term, we attended out first USTA Sectional Tournament, won two rounds, advanced to the silver bracket, and took home the tournament's sportsmanship award! We also attended two invitational tournaments during Winter term. We are looking forward to hosting the inaugural George and Bob invitational tournament over reading days in the Fall of 2016.

Mission Statement

The mission of Club Tennis is to create and foster a community of tennis players who gather weekly to play tennis and compete to enhance athletic, strategic, and teambuilding abilities.

Requirements for Membership

The Club Tennis team is open to all members of the undergraduate population and law school. Any student may come to practices. However, interested students must pay yearly dues to be considered a member. All members are required to pay dues, come to at least one practice per week on average. participate in at least one non-practice activity per year. Non-practice activities include tournaments, dual matches, philanthropy events, and fundraising events.

Benefit to Washington and Lee University and the Surrounding Community

Many tennis players come to Washington and Lee who are not interested in playing tennis as a Varsity sport yet would still like to have a team, have opportunities to meet new players, and play competitive matches. We provide these opportunities through practices and competitive tournaments that require a minimal time commitment for interested students.
