Club Spikeball

The Washington and Lee Spikeball Club serves as an on-campus community through which people can be physically active while also having fun. Spikeball is a relatively unknown sport so the club strives to introduce the sport to all interested members of the community. Club activities include weekly group play, lessons, competitive play, and Spikeball tournaments.

Constitution

Article I: History

The constitution was drafted after winter term of 2016. The constitution was then proposed to the Executive Committee and approved during spring term of 2016. This took place during the Executive Committee spring budget allocations.

Article II: Mission Statement

The club hopes to serve as an on campus community through which people can be physically active while also having fun. Spikeball is a relatively unknown sport so the club strives to introduce the sport to all interested members of the community. It provides the opportunity for free lessons and gameplay without the personal expenses associated with purchasing a set. Club activities may consist of weekly group play, lessons, competitive play, and Spikeball tournaments.

Article III: Membership Requirements

To be an active member in the club one must just express interest in joining the club. The club has no member cap and adds anyone who would like to get involved. No initial skill level is required as community members of all abilities are welcomed into the club.

Article IV: Organization of Leadership

Elections for each position will take place at the end of the second semester before finals. All active members will be able to vote during the election for each position. One may nominate his/herself or accept a nomination for an officer position to be able to run.

The President of the club is in charge of overseeing all activity pertaining to the club to ensure an efficient and successful presence on campus. Roles include overseeing budgeting, tournament planning, meeting and practice scheduling, etc.

The Vice President will be responsible for aiding the president however is seen fit and filling in when the president is unable to fulfill a duty. The role especially entails the responsibility of organizing and booking meeting and practice locations.

The Treasurer is in charge of budgeting and organizing the club's funds. This includes but is not limited to documenting dues, allocating funds for equipment, and budgeting expenses for tournaments.

The Social Chair will be in charge of increasing campus awareness for the club. The main responsibilities are maintaining a club Instagram and Facebook page as well as posting eblasts and physical flyers on campus as seen fit.

Article V: Benefit to W&L and Surrounding Community

The Spikeball Club will most notably serve as an organization that creates friendships and bonds among university students. It will unite students across all classes over an enjoyable, friendly sport. Additionally, the organization will promote healthy living on campus because of the physical activity level required to play Spikeball.
