Matthew Schucker is currently the band director at Maury River Middle School and an active performer in the area.  Matt graduated from James Madison University in 2006 where he studied with Dr. Andrew Lankford.   While at JMU, Matt participated in the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Marching Royal Dukes, Jazz Band, Jazz Ensemble, Brass Band, Trombone Choir, Trombone Quartet and a small jazz combo.  He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education as well as a minor in Jazz Studies and in 2010 completed his Master’s Degree in Arts and Curriculum from Virginia Tech.  Matt is currently serving on the executive board of the Virginia Music Educators Association on behalf of District V band programs.  Matt is originally from Lancaster, PA and performs regularly with W&L’s University-Shenandoah Symphony Orchestra, Rockbridge Symphony Orchestra, and the Lexington Brass Quintet.

Other adventures Matt enjoys include growing food in his garden, announcing NFL draft picks, and spending time with his wife Christy and their daughter Ella, born in November 2012.
