About

A graduate of Yale University, completing dual programs in History and Religious Studies (1999), with her J.D. from Duke University School of Law (2002), her LL.M. from Yale Law School (2008), and J.S.D. from Yale Law School (2011), Dr. Fraley is a legal historian who focuses her research on property and environmental issues. She practiced law for more than six years, working primarily at the intersection of property and environmental law. 

As a historian she has focused primarily on the evolution of property and tort law in England, Ireland and the U.S. Her work on the evolution of waste law won the American Association of Law Schools' Scholarly Paper Award in 2016. Her research on English and Irish property law has won the Arthur Cox Visiting Research Fellowship at Trinity College Dublin, as well as a Fulbright scholar's award for Ireland. Professor Fraley received her second Fulbright Scholar award in 2019-2020 for Turkey.

Dr. Fraley has also held fellowships from the Rachel Carson Center, the David Library of the American Revolution, the Kentucky Historical Society, the John F. Kennedy Library, the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Her recent work has been published in the Villanova Law Review, Marquette Law Review, and Indiana Law Review.

Dr. Fraley has taught at the University of Kentucky Law School, Trinity College Dublin and Yale Law School. She currently teaches property, environmental law, constitutional law, law & geography and legal history. She has twice held the Washington and Lee, Alumni Faculty Teaching Fellowship Award and in 2016-2017 was a finalist in the Commonwealth of Virginia Outstanding Faculty Awards.
