Professor Oliver joined the W&L faculty in July 1991. For many years she taught the first intermediate accounting, one of the entry courses into the major. She now focuses on classes in writing and research for accountants, a first-year seminar in corporate social responsibility, and introductory financial accounting. She served as Associate Dean of the Williams School before becoming head of the Accounting Department. She also serves as one of the two faculty advisors to Washington and Lee Student Consulting and works with students interested in the London internship program through Hollins University.

She currently researches in the areas of positive psychology and performance evaluation as well as corporate social responsibility and sustainability. Her previous research has investigated the influence of culture on pension and welfare benefits. She currently serves on the editorial board of Business Horizons. She is active in the American Accounting Association and has served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section as well as on numerous AAA committees, including the Finance Committee and as chair of the Membership Advisory Committee. She also spent a year with Arthur Andersen's Northern Virginia office as a Faculty Fellow.
