Content Page Primer

Virtual Links (Redirect URLs): A Virtual Link page is a page that exists simply to redirect visitors to another page on the web (either within your site or on another site altogether). On old content pages, there was a "Required Page Info if ‘Index' or ‘Virtual Link' field." Now you just populate the "Redirect URL" field if you wish to create a virtual link. Internal links are within the current system, and can be created by either typing the title of the page into the Virtual Link field or dragging the page you want to link to from the site tree into that field. External links are to outside sites, including the old Ingeniux system. You will need to copy and paste the full URL (including http://) into the Virtual Link field. Document links will allow you to link to a document from the assets folder.

Index Pages: An index page is a page that uses the title and abstract text of its children in place of or in addition to body copy. These are great for top-level navigation pages that serve as a gateway to a lot of other information (i.e. Opportunities for Students). On old content pages, there used to be a "Required Page Info if ‘Index' or ‘Virtual Link' field." In the new system, you can create an index page by clicking the "Display Index" box about midway down the Content Page edit screen, just below the Pull Quote Attribution box.

Abstract: The abstract is an important field for search engine optimization and for Index pages. Abstract text is indexed by search engines (include lots of keywords!) and will appear as a descriptive blurb for your page on index pages within the site. You should make it a habit to always fill out abstract text for your pages--especially for those pages being indexed by another page. If you need to insert links or line breaks or other formatting into your abstract, use the HTML Abstract field in place of the regular Abstract field, which is text-only.

Thumbnail Image: These are important to create attractive index pages, and display alongside the page title and abstract text for the pages being indexed. The standard size is 200x133 pixels, 72 dpi.

Header Image: This is the large image that appears at the top of the page. The page inherits its header image from its parent page unless another is specified. The standard size is 1100x320 pixels, 72 dpi. Note that this is a very long, narrow dimension, close to a "panoramic" photo. Not all images will crop well to this dimension, and high-resolution images are a necessity for this space. We recommend that you use images already in the Images > Headers folder or contact the Communications office using the Help Ticket tab in the top right corner of the Ingeniux editor or via http://go.wlu.edu/photo for help selecting or taking a new, appropriate photo.

Content block: When copying and pasting from Microsoft Word or another program, reformatting will be necessary. This is due to bad html code that can be pasted in and break the display of the page in some browsers. When you try to paste into the content block, a new window will pop up. It's a better practice to choose 'Paste text only' but you can choose either of the other two options. Paste the text inside the block of the new window and click insert.

Links in the Content section: The best way to create a body copy link to another page within the same Ingeniux system is to highlight the text that you want to link and then click and drag the title of the page you want to link to over the highlighted text. This will create an internal link. You can also create links to internal pages, external pages or documents in the body copy by highlighting the text you want to link and clicking on the chain link icon in the WYSIWYG editor toolbar. Once you click on the chain link icon, a new window will pop up. There you can choose whether your link is internal or external. Just fill out the Page or URL row.

A Note about Documents: New to this version of Ingeniux, users will not be able to upload documents to the system. To add a document to the new Ingeniux, select the Help Ticket tab in the top right corner of the Ingeniux editor or go to http://go.wlu.edu/web and select "Add Photo or Document." We will upload it and make sure that it overwrites the old version.

Body Images: Ingeniux 8.0 standardizes the way that inline images display on our site for accessibility reasons.

  • In the Feature Image field on your edit screen, click Browse to choose or upload the image you wish to display on the page.
  • Fill in the Alt Text field for accessibility compliance.
  • Type in the Content field where you want the image to appear. This short code will insert the image automatically and add the Alt Text as a caption for the image.

Pull Quotes: New to Ingeniux 8.0, you can add a stylized pull quote to your body text. This is a great way to highlight important information and make your site more attractive and scannable.

  • In the Pull Quote field, add the text that you want to feature.
  • Add the attribution, if available, in the Pull Quote Attribution field.
  • Type [pull quote/] in the Content field where you want the quote to appear. This short code will insert the quote automatically.
