1. How do I get a student visa?

The Center for International Education will deliver the documents and instructions you will need to obtain your visa to your address.

2. What is International Student Orientation?

International Student Orientation is a week long program designed to provide you with the information you need to succeed at W&L and provide an oppurtunity to adjust to campus life before classes begin. You will receive information about the orientation program from Hunter Swanson (hswanson@wlu.edu) several months before your arrival.

3. Do I need health insurance?

Yes, you must obtain the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) offered by W&L. The SHIP insurance policy will ensure that you have access to affordable healthcare accross the U.S.

4. How can I get from the airport to campus?

If you'd like a free bus shuttle to Lexington, please plan to arrive at Roanoke (ROA) airport the day before International Student Orientation begins - you will receive more information about this several months before your arrival. If you plan to arrive at a different airport, you will need to arrange your own transportation to Lexington. 

5. How do I open a bank account?

During international student orientation, your mentors will take you to Cornerstone Bank to open a bank account. You will need to bring your passport, I-20 form, and student ID. Make sure to complete your appilication before leaving and bring at least $50 in cash to make an initial deposit. Cornerstone Bank has been friendly to W&L students, but if you would like to work with national bank, you also have the option of Wells Fargo bank.
