Allison West '94
Ms. West graduated from Washington and Lee in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and, after working for a few years, she received her Master of Social Work. Allison then worked as a social worker/therapist at a high school for youth with complex learning and behavioral challenges, and then she directed a community-based child abuse prevention program for Catholic Charities of Baltimore. She is currently an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
Allison is a licensed clinical social worker and has recently returned to school as a PhD student to pursue her interest in prevention science and parenting interventions. Allison is happy to speak with anyone considering a career in the applied social sciences, or to anyone who needs ideas for what to do after graduation and who may be interested in non-profit work. Allison says "the nonprofit sector is a great place to gain experience, establish a work history, and make a difference if you don't have definite ideas about what career you want to pursue.
