Lauren Sturdy '11

Lauren graduated from Washington and Lee in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and minor in Museum Studies, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Lauren is very interested in working with museums with cultural heritage collections, and at Washington and Lee had the opportunity to work with University Collections on campus and to do internships at the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage and the Smithsonian's Museum Conservation Institute. These gave Lauren experience with collections management, conservation science and conservation respectively, and helped her to decide that her real passion is for conservation science. Lauren is currently a Materials Science and Engineering PhD student at Northwestern University studying the aging of artists' alkyd paints. She would be happy to talk with students interested in museum related work, particularly conservation science and conservation.
