Student Reflections
We invite you to read student reflections from past and present exhibitions. Our aim is to engage W&L students and visitors with our galleries through close looking to stimulate critical thinking, art appreciation, and interdisciplinary learning. Be sure to visit the online and virtual galleries for a more immersive experience.
Watson Gallery Reflection
The Museums invited students to reflect on objects in Inscapes: Paintings by Evelyn Dawson and Breaking the Chains: Ceramics and Abolition Movement temporarily displayed in the Watson Galleries. Due to COVID-19, we invite you to read their reflections below. Visitors are invited to share their own reactions when they visit the Galleries through Summer 2021.
Look and Listen
Inscapes immerses visitors in a vibrant spectrum of color, illuminating Evelyn Dawson’s exploration of her inner psyche. In collaboration with students, the Museums paired each painting with a song to elevate the viewing experience. Due to COVID-19, you can explore their reflections and curated songs below. The exhibition is in partnership with wluLex, supports the 20th anniversary of the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program, and is part of the Museums’ new mindfulness initiative. Visitors can now listen to a curated selection of songs and are invited to look and listen when visiting the gallery.
Leyburn Library Gallery Reflections
Students in ARTH398: Seminar in Museums Studies reflect on pieces in their curated exhibit, Chaos in Color: Paintings by Almigdad Aldikhaiiry temporarily displayed in Leyburn Library. Due to COVID-19, we invite you to read their reflections below. Visitors are invited to share their own reactions when they visit the Galleries through August 2021.
