First-Year Applicants

Students who are currently seniors in high school or who have never taken college classes after graduating from high school should apply as first-year students. We offer two binding Early Decision options as well as a non-binding Regular Decision application.

Students who wish to be considered for a Johnson Scholarship — or any Washington and Lee merit-based scholarship — must submit a complete Common Application, including the W&L Writing Supplement, no later than December 1. All Johnson Scholarship application instructions are included in W&L's Writing Supplement to the Common Application.

First-year home-schooled students and international students living outside the U.S. should note the additional suggested and required materials for their applications.

Early Decision

We offer two binding Early Decision options, with Round I due November 1, and Round II due January 1. Learn whether Early Decision is the right choice for you.

Regular Decision

Our non-binding regular decision applications are due on January 1. Learn more about our application requirements.

The Johnson Scholarship

Winners of the Johnson Scholarship receive awards of at least tuition, room and board. Every year Johnson Scholarships are awarded to approximately ten percent of the incoming class. Learn what we're looking for in this talented group of students.
