Competitive Fellowships and Opportunities

Nationally competitive fellowships can provide funding for graduate school, undergraduate research opportunities, foreign language immersion programs, and undergraduate study or internships abroad, among other things.

Awards range in size and scope, from a few thousand dollars for eligible academic expenses as an undergraduate, to full funding to complete a graduate degree domestically or abroad. Washington and Lee students have an excellent track record of receiving these prestigious fellowships, whether that be the Rhodes Scholarship, which fully funds postgraduate study at the University of Oxford, or the Gilman Scholarship, which provides up to $5,000 to Pell Grant recipients for study or interning abroad.

Students of any major, class year, or citizenship are eligible to apply for nationally competitive fellowships, and W&L has a dedicated staff member, the Director of Fellowships, who can advise and support students throughout their fellowships journey.
