Kevin works directly with the Dean of First-Year Students, Vice President of Student Affairs, Director of Public Safety, and the University Counseling and Student Health Center staff to ensure the success of the First-Year Residence Life program. In addition, he oversees the four Assistant Head Resident Advisers for First-Year Students and conducts weekly leadership meetings,. The Head RA works with the Dean of First-Year Students to develop late summer RA training and monthly training sessions, and serves on the Student Affairs Committee with the Vice President of Student Affairs, Executive Committee President, Student Judicial Council Chairman, Inter-Fraternity Council President and the Pan-Hellenic Council President to review and improve University policy.
Catherine Carlock '10, Assistant Head Resident Adviser for First-Year Students
(First-Year Programming)
Responsible for overseeing one-third of the residential life staff, Catherine works to encourage and evaluate staff performance while providing appropriate and timely feedback. In addition, she is responsible for maintaining current accountability of monthly programming activities. Catherine presents new or successful ideas to the staff, and participates in weekly leadership meetings and attends all training sessions.
Crystal Spencer '11, Assistant Head Resident Adviser for First-Year Students
(First-Year Leadership Council Representative)
Crystal is responsible for overseeing one-third of the residential life staff. She encourages and evaluates staff performance, providing appropriate and timely feedback. In addition, Crystal assists the dean of first-year students to select the members of the First-Year Leadership Council and provide advisory leadership to this student organization. Crystal attends all meetings of the FLC, serving as a guide and mentor for the students. She participates in weekly leadership meetings and attends all training sessions.
Natalie Bunnell '10, Assistant Head Resident Adviser for First-Year Students
(Academic Tutoring Program)
Natalie is also responsible for overseeing one-third of the residential life staff. She works to encourage and evaluate staff performance providing appropriate and timely feedback. Natalie will anticipate and address issues that first-year students are undergoing and work to prepare the RA's to handle situations properly and pro-actively. Furthermore, she will maintain and monitor the peer tutoring program, working with the Dean of First-Year Students, the Associate Dean of the College, Dean of the Williams School, and the academic department heads. Natlaie participates in weekly leadership meetings and attends all training sessions.
Kimber Wiggs '10, Head Resident Adviser for Upper-Division Students
Kimber's goal as the head RA for upper-division students is to develop an atmosphere in the living area that supports Washington and Lee University's mission statement by promoting the academic and social growth of residents. Reporting to the associate dean of student affairs, Kimber is responsible for facilitating monthly in-service training periods for the RA staff, providing leadership to the RAs, and organizing group-building events throughout the contractual period. Kimber will supervise a leadership staff of two individuals and will, with that leadership staff, oversee a staff of 14-16 RA's. She will be expected to provide leadership, mentorship, and/or guidance to his/her peers. She is a self-starter and able to work independently.
Neville Fogarty '10, Assistant Head Resident Adviser for Upper-Division Students
(Staff In-Service Sessions and Staff Development Activities)
Neville is responsible for working with deans and head RA’s in the coordination of all in-service sessions for the entire undergraduate residential life staff. He will facilitate topics and guest speakers for a series of in-service sessions to be held each academic semester. Neville will propose engaging topics and timely correspondence with staff in terms of the dates, times and places for such sessions. He will also work closely with the leadership to facilitate a few fun social gatherings of the whole residential life staff during the academic year. This position has been created to improve continuity, communication and facilitation of on-going job training needs and the fun factor associated with being on staff.
Meghan Keane '10, Assistant Head Resident Adviser for Upper-Division Students
(Upper-Division Programming)
The goal of the Assistant Head RA is to support Washington and Lee University's mission statement by promoting the academic and social growth of residents through programming. Meghan reports to the Head RAU-D, and is responsible for helping the RA staff with their programming efforts throughout the contractual period. Meghan will assist with the supervision of the RA staff with responsibility for 1/2 of the RAU-D staff and will be expected to provide leadership, mentorship, and/or guidance to her peers and residents as a self-starter who is able to work independently.
