More about:
Religious Life

The Office of Religious Life at Washington and Lee University supports all religious traditions by providing opportunities for transformative interfaith dialogue and deepening the awareness of the spiritual and moral dimensions of human wholeness. Multi-faith in nature, this office, and its coordinator W. "Burr" Datz, cultivates respect among religious faith groups, affirms the connection between intellectual and spiritual life and nurtures religious faith on and off campus by coordinating the sharing of information with local faith communities who primarily provide for the religious needs of students attending Washington and Lee. Programs are designed to deepen faith, broaden vision, develop character and support capabilities for servant leadership, ever mindful of the University’s tradition as a non-sectarian institution.

The six areas of focus of the Office of Religious Life include:

  • counseling
  • pastoral care
  • programming
  • morality
  • community building
  • social justice

Washington and Lee University maintains its commitment to moral and spiritual values in an atmosphere free of sectarian favoritism, inviting and serving individuals of all faiths.
