a Liederabend (Evening of Song) dates back to the 1800's and is traditionally an intimate concert performed by friends in the salon of an upperclass family. The voice students and faculty of Washington and Lee will recreate this tradition in our 'salon' in the Elrod Commons. This Liederabend will focus on the music of Robert Schumann. His Liederkreis (song cycle) Op. 39 setting the poems of Eichendorff will be the central work on the program with additional songs and duets. This is a rare opportunity to experience exquisite music in the way it would have been first performed.
