South India is the W&L Traveller's signature program for the 2012-2013 season. In short, we put this one together. Through personal inspection, we've been directly involved in selecting the itinerary, the properties, and the guides for this exceptional tour. The challenges and the wonders of travel through India require close attention, and they reward it, for the intense vibrancy of life there, the teeming humanity and the dizzying depth and complexity of India's cultural heritage can easily boggle the mind. We're very pleased by what we've been able to design, and we're excited to share what will certainly will be an extraordinary travel adventure.
Our itinerary combines a comprehensible introduction to India's religious heritage, her political and economic cultures, urban and rural lifestyles, wildlife safaris, and the delectations of Indian cuisine with some of the most elegant and comfortable accommodations anywhere in the world. It is said that the Raj is alive and well in India's hospitality industry. The resorts included in this itinerary are definitely five star. But such luxury is merely our evening sanctuary. The days are full of wonders.
Among the highlights are visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites; tours of lavish palaces, forest preserves, and coffee plantations; people-to-people meetings over hosted luncheons; the vast elephants herds of Nagarahole National Park, where tigers lurk; the beautiful, historic city of Cochin, capital of the prosperous state of Kerala and former Dutch colonial center (Vasco da Gama was buried here); and an unforgettable rice boat cruise among the myriad islands of Vembanad Lake in Kumarakom. This will be a very full program-the itinerary and package description require several pages. As in America, there are profound differences between the north and the south. To know and appreciate India, you must move beyond the Taj Mahal. Bring your cameras.
