Our Six-Day Getaway to Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic and Central Europe's best preserved city, is likely to appeal to anyone interested in music, art, and architecture. Untouched by two World Wars, Prague offers a veritable encyclopedia on 1,100 years of European architectural styles, from Romanesque to High Gothic to Art Nouveau. Like Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral, and the Charles Bridge, Prague's Music Festival is also world famous. The city resounds with music the year round.
From its position on the Vltava River, Prague has witnessed the flow of empires. For centuries, it was the seat of the Holy Roman Empire. Later, this City of a Hundred Spires benefited from the wealth of the Habsburg Monarchy. It was fortunate to escape the devastations of the Thirty Years War and the 20th-century conflicts-even the Communist era left it intact. In 1992, the vast historic center of the city earned the status of UNESCO World Heritage site. But Prague is no cloistered vault of antiquity. One need only stroll through the Old Town Square or the labyrinth of narrow streets to savor its paprika of festivity.
Like our other Getaways, our program in Prague is remarkably well-priced. This Getaway includes five nights at the four-star Falkensteiner Hotel Maria Prague. Located in the heart of Prague a short distance from Wenceslas Square, the Falkensteiner will be especially convenient for our tours and independent excursions. In addition to our fine hotel, the package includes two dinners, a welcome reception, a daily buffet breakfast, and gratuities, along with round-trip air from Dulles International. As a special bonus, the trip will be escorted by W&L hosts and faculty, who are both well-acquainted with the city. Their special knowledge of Prague and its many museums, galleries, restaurants, and other amusements will be a further resource for travelers. Places are likely to go fast, so early response is recommended.
