Student to Students: Mentoring in Rockbridge provides local youth with positive role models. These one on one matches will be fostered and strengthened through weekly meetings. Matches will be formed based on commons interests, personalities, and skills. These matches will be formed by the Executive team who have already been through the process of matching W&L students with local youth. The executive members are also familiar with local youth and have positive relations with many members of the community. These existing relationships with teachers, principals, mentors, program coordinators and guidance counselors will help ensure successful matches. The mission of the program is to build a closer community bond between students at Washington and Lee University and youth in the Rockbridge area. Our goal is to empower children and give them the drive to succeed by providing them with a positive adult figure in their life. By setting up the children with positive role models, the children can learn more about themselves and further explore their goals for their future. We hope that relationships built off of trust and friendship will develop between the one-on-one student and child pairs. This mentoring organization will give the children an outlet that will hopefully lead them away from engaging in dangerous or harmful activities.
