Alumni Alternative Breaks

Service beyond Lexington

The Alumni Alternative Break Program is an opportunity to join current W&L students, W&L alumni and W&L parents in an effort to serve community organizations in need around the country. There are many students at Washington and Lee that are looking for something meaningful to do with one or more of their breaks. Alternative Breaks are a unique way for students to serve and learn about real issues impacting people and cities around the country. Alumni choose the host agency where the students will serve based on their knowledge of the need and impact the organization has on their city. Students then travel together to volunteer their services for a week during their February or April break. Thus, the trip not only benefits the community, but also brings the students and participating alumni together in a meaningful way.

Trips in 2012-2013:

Reading Days:  Charlotte, NC (Cost is $50, Applications are due September 19th)

February Break:  Birmingham, AL

Spring Break:  TBD

Students looking to apply for trips should contact Alvin Thomas '14.  Alumni can contact Jenny Davidson, Coordinator of Student Service Learning.
