Thomas Gerard Burish

Thomas Gerard Burish, a native of Peshtigo, Wis., held an A.B. (1972) from Notre Dame and an M.A. in psychology (1975) and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology (1976) from the University of Kansas. He joined the faculty of the psychology department at Vanderbilt University in 1975, and taught and held administrative positions there, including provost, until 2002, when he came to W&L.
Burish served on the American Cancer Society's national board of directors from 1991 to 2006 and as its chair from 2004 to 2005. During his tenure at W&L, the University broke ground for Wilson Hall, celebrated the 20th anniversary of coeducation and dedicated the John W. Elrod University Commons. In 2005, Burish returned to his alma mater, Notre Dame, to serve as its provost.
