At W&L, the health and safety of our students is a top priority, and our efforts to ensure the well-being of each student go far beyond basic security and medical care. The Student Health Center, University Counseling service, Health Promotion and Public Safety offices are here to ensure that students' medical, emotional and physical needs are met from the moment they step on campus.
The University's Student Health Center provides medical evaluation and care of student health concerns, both in an out-patient office setting, and an infirmary setting for round-the-clock care when needed. University Counseling provides direct psychotherapy services, assessment of academic problems, and (with student consent) collaboration with faculty, administrative personnel or parents to provide necessary supports for struggling students. Psychiatric consultation is also available.
The Office of Health Promotion provides students with information about alcohol and other drugs, sexuality issues including sexual misconduct and sexual harassment, nutrition, stress management, and mental health issues such as depression and eating disorders. The University's Violence • Intervention • Prevention program addresses issues of power-based personal violence, including partner violence, sexual assault‚ stalking and other uses of force‚ threat‚ intimidation or harassment of an individual, working collaboratively with student organizations to provide resources for treatment and prevention.
The Public Safety department is the enforcement agency of the University and works 24/7 to keep our community safe. Public Safety officers interact daily with students on campus and are committed to helping them make decisions that promote positive experiences during their time at W&L. They are often the first responders at the scene of an incident and play a critical role in the University's emergency management plan. The department also coordinates campus parking and vehicle registration and oversees Traveller, the University's safe-ride program.
