Dr. Harold J. Quinn Jr. committed $200,000 for the Harold J. Quinn Jr. Faculty Support Endowment. "What I remember most is the quality of the teachers I had at W&L," says Quinn. "I remember taking courses from professors Leyburn, Stevens and Sterling. When we get together for reunions we enjoy the view of the Colonnade, but it is the teachers and the courses they taught that we talk about. These teachers affected us for life." Quinn, who retired to Chapel Hill, N.C., hopes that his gift will help W&L continue to draw and retain the finest professors available. "It is the quality of the teachers that makes the University what it is. The campus is beautiful, but without good professors, it is merely an empty space," says Quinn. "When you come to the end of your life and look back, you remember the teachers who influenced you."
