As is the custom at Washington and Lee, the president of the Executive Committee of the Student Body addresses the commencement exercises.
In his remarks to the Class of 2011 on May 26, 2011, Scott Centorino, a politics major from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., told his classmates that of all the challenges facing them, mending a worn social fabric would be their biggest.
"All the other problems we inherit - from the national debt to the achievement gap in inner city schools - seem enormous compared to saving personal interaction. But no solutions to any of those problems can emerge from a people unable and unwilling to talk to each other," Centorino said.
