Interested in eating locally? A CSA is essentially a subscription to a farm or other local food supplier. The subscription format provides you with fresh, local produce (and eggs, cheese, meat, etc.) and allows farmers some predictability of demand and assurance that their hard work will end up eaten.
Washington and Lee will begin providing payroll deductions for the Local Food Options! Sign up with the Local Food Options directly and also contact humanresources or 8355 to trigger payroll deduction. We hope the ability to spread the cost over several months will make Local Food Options an affordable option for fresh local food! We've included information about the three Local Food Options below.
The Farm To You 2013 Summer Market Season is about to begin, and W&L employees are invited to subscribe now! Farm To You is Lexington's all local food grocer. Farm To You also offers the convenience of on-line shopping to customers who subscribe to that service. Customers order weekly from an extensive menu of local food products, including produce, dairy, eggs, flours and grains, meats, pantry goods and much more. Subscribers order just what they need, or not at all, in any given order cycle, which offers more flexibility than a CSA. There are no minimum order requirements. Farm To You is pleased to offer this on-line shopping feature to W&L employees through W&L's payroll deduction program. The six-month Summer Market Season begins on May 10 and ends at the end of October. The Farm To You Winter Market Season, bringing you fresh, local food -- including produce -- all Winter long, begins in November. For more information and an application, please see the FAQs and visit the Farm To You website.
Rockbridge Farmers Alliance (formerly Firsthand Farmers Cooperative) is a collective of Central Virginia farms committed to providing fresh, locally produced farm goods directly to the consumer. We sell our products through Community Supported Agriculture or CSA. In this model, consumers purchase an upfront "share" at the beginning of the season and then pick-up their products weekly. When you join Rockbridge Farmers Alliance CSA you'll have access to several share options - vegetables, herbs, eggs, and dairy products... plus some fruit, mushrooms, homemade pasta, and fermented products. Rockbridge Farmers Alliance is different from other CSA's because we can offer more diversity and you can source more of your food directly from local producers.Shares are delivered on Thursdays at the W&L Hillel House on Washington Street. Once again W&L will offer payroll deduction for participation in the CSA (Turn in the payroll deduction form to Suzannah Vess). Our CSA manager is Mitch Wapner of Paradox Farm.
