Traveller started as a student-run initiative following the death of a student in a drunk driving crash. Traveller was designed to be the third line of defense to get students home safely. First, students were expected to remain sober, then to call a sober friend, and lastly to call upon Traveller ot help them get home safely.

Homesickness

If homesickness is bothering you, you're not alone. Experiencing new things and meeting new people can be exciting and stressful at the same time. It's natural to have a period of adjustment when you leave home. In fact, most students experience some form of homesickness while in college. The good news is that homesickness goes away eventually.

Red Flag Campaign

Dating violence can happen to anyone- straight, gay, male, or female, and can include verbal, emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. 32% of college students report dating violence by a previous partner, and 21% report violence by a current partner. The Red Flag Campaign encourages college students to intervene and say something when they see a warning sign ("Red Flag") of dating violence.

Colds and Flu

The Student Health Center, in accordance with the CDC guidelines, recommends that all students, faculty, and staff get the seasonal flu vaccine. The 2010-2011 seasonal flu vaccine protects against: influenza A H3N2 virus, influenza B virus, and the 2009 H1N1 virus that caused so much illness last season.

Bullying

Bullying still takes place on our campus, and more recently on our online social networks. "harassing conduct may take many forms, including verbal slurs and name-calling; graphic and written statements; may include use of cell phones or the Internet; or other conduct that may be physically threatening, harmful, or humiliating. Harassment does not have to include intent to harm, be directed at a specific target, or involve repeated incidents. Harassment creates a hostile environment when the conduct is sufficiently severe, pervasive, or persistent so as to interfere with or limit a student's ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or opportunities offered by a school."

Eating Disorders

Eating disorders - such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder - include extreme emotions, attitudes, and behaviors surrounding weight and food issues. Eating disorders are serious emotional and physical problems that can have life-threatening consequences for females and males.

Chlamydia

Chlamydia is the most prevalent STI in the United States. Chlamydia can be treated with a single dose of antibiotics. However, if left untreated or if multiple reinfections occur Chlamydia can cause irreversible long-term health effects.

Genital Herpes

Did you know...? 1 in 6 adults in the US has genital herpes. Any form of sexual contact can transmit it (oral or genital contact). A person with genital herpes can infect his or her partner during an outbreak or when no visible sores are present. Recurrent fever blisters or cold sores on the lips are a form of herpes infection, and oral-genital contact can cause genital herpes in a partner. Women are more susceptible to genital herpes than men. HSV can infect the eye as well.

Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea, also known as the "clap" or "drip" is one of the most common STIs in the United States. It is a bacterial infection. Approximately 75% of all reported cases of gonorrhea are found in people who are 15 to 29 years of age. 80% of women and 10% of men with gonorrhea show no symptoms, so it is important to learn about how it is transmitted and how you can get tested if you think you might be at risk.

HIV/AIDS

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American College Health Association estimate that 1 in 500 college students are infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). It may take 7-10 years before HIV develops into AIDS, damaging the immune system to the point that the body cannot fight off infections.

HPV

HPV: Are you protected? HPV (Human Papilloma-Virus) is the most common viral STI. Over 100 different strains of the HPV virus have been identified. 40 strains are sexually transmitted. 15 strains can cause cervical cancer.

Syphilis

Did you know? Syphilis has been called the great intimidator because its signs and symptoms are so similar to other infections and diseases. Over 36,000 new cases of syphilis occur in the U.S. each year. During 2004-2008, rates of syphilis increased the most among 15-24 year-old men and women.

Trichomoniasis
