Purpose: To support one internship with a news organizations. Recently, students receiving these internships have worked at The Roanoke Times and U.S. News & World Report in Washington, D.C.
Funds available: A $500/week stipend for 8-10 weeks.
Eligibility: Declared majors in Journalism or Business Journalism. Interns receiving this stipend must work at least 300 hours in a newsroom and enroll in J453 News Internship. They must also fulfill the pre-requisites for J453 before the internship begins.
How to apply: Address applications to the department head. Include a cover letter and resume.
Deadline: Third week in November.

The Alex S. Jones- Susan E. Tifft Internships are made possible through a generous donation by Alex S. Jones '68. They were established to encourage talented, promising Journalism majors who intend to pursue careers as journalists. Accordingly, honorees must serve their internships in print, broadcast or online newsrooms.
Money from the Alex S. Jones-Susan E. Tifft Internships fund may also be used to support students whose paid internships offer inadequate financial support for them. Any interns who do not receive full funding from the fund shall not be designated Alex S. Jones-Susan E. Tifft Interns.
