The Safe Space network is made up of University faculty, staff, and students who are committed to being allies of the GLBTQ community. Its purpose is to provide anyone from the GLBTQ community with "safe spaces" around our campus. It allows students and faculty to fully explore and understand the experiences of the GLBTQ community while developing acceptance and respect for the GLBTQ population. All members complete a training that consists of information about the GLBTQ population and how to be an ally. At the end of the training, participants are given a distinctive sticker that reads, "This symbol identifies someone who is respectful, sensitive and supportive to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual community, as well as those questioning their sexual orientation." These stickers can be seen all around campus to visibly designate safe spaces.
