Internship: Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program at Bellevue Hospital, NYC

It would be impossible for me to overemphasize the importance of the Shepherd Program to my Washington and Lee education. Through the Alliance internship alone, I spent the most significant three months of my college career at Bellevue Hospital working with W&L alum Dr. R. Maslansky in the Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program. My experience changed me, reshaping the vision I had for my personal and professional future. The patients I met were extraordinary; they educated me in struggle, resilience and hope. Eventually I understood exactly how much I had left to learn about poverty's impact on my world, and I consider that lesson, in itself, to be invaluable.
