Applying for Need Based Aid
STEP 1: Complete the 2013-14 CSS Profile online.
- Our school code is 5887
- The Non-Custodial Parent Profile is required if your parents are divorced, separated, or unmarried.
STEP 2: Submit directly to the W&L Financial Aid Office via mail:
- Your and your parents' 2011 federal tax returns including all schedules, W-2s, 1099s, etc
- 2011 Federal tax returns for businesses and corporations including all schedules, K-1s,etc, if applicable
- If your parents are divorced, separated, or unmarried, your non-custodial parent's tax return is also required.
STEP 3: Submit directly to the W&L Financial Aid Office via mail:
- Your and your parents' 2012 federal tax returns including all schedules, W-2s, 1099s, etc
- 2012 Federal tax returns for businesses and corporations including all schedules, K-1s,etc, if applicable
- If your parents are divorced, separated, or unmarried, your non-custodial parent's tax return is also required.
STEP 4: Complete the 2013-14 FAFSA online using the 2012 federal tax returns. Our school code is 003768.
Additional Information:
- Steps 1 and 2 are required to receive a preliminary financial aid award letter. Your financial aid award will be adjusted to reflect the 2012 tax information. This means your aid could increase or decrease based on the 2012 taxes.
- Steps 3 and 4 should be completed after the 2012 federal tax returns are available. Please do not submit draft copies of tax returns to our office. Do not submit your FAFSA with estimated tax figures.
- If your 2012 federal tax returns are available by the financial aid deadline, please submit the 2012 returns along with the 2011 returns. Families who submit their 2012 taxes by the deadline will receive a complete financial aid award.
- Your 2012 tax returns are not ready? Do not wait to apply for financial assistance until the 2012 tax returns are complete. Please notify our office at 540-458-8717 if submission deadlines present a problem.
- Special Circumstances? You are welcome to notify our office in writing of any special or unusual circumstances beyond the family's control which will limit your ability to afford educational costs.
- We do not accept documents submitted via fax or email. Please mail your documents to our office at W&L Financial Aid Office, 204 West Washington Street, Lexington, VA 24450.
