Nuclear weapons and nuclear power have greatly influenced the world since 1945. The Alsos Digital Library for Nuclear Issues provides a vetted, annotated bibliography of over 3,000 books, articles, films, CDs, and websites about a broad range of nuclear issues. The annotations are written by Washington and Lee students from various majors, professionally edited, and then reviewed by members of the library's National Advisory Board. Over the past ten years twenty four computer science students have worked on the computer infrastructure for the library.
This summer Si Young Kim ('13), pictured on the right, and Kelly Mae Ross (‘13'), pictured second from the left, worked with Professor Whaley to improve the keyword search algorithm, to improve many of the underlying database stored procedures and to design and implement a new web page design and navigation scheme.
