Interviewing

An interview allows the Admissions Office the opportunity to get to know you a little better than your paper application might normally allow. Typically, interviews include an in-depth conversation about your college search, along with your priorities for the next four years of your education. Further, it allows you the opportunity to ask questions one-on-one of an Admissions official.

Interviews are not required, but they are strongly recommended. You may begin interviewing on-campus as early as May of your junior year through August of your senior year. Usually there is enough time for parents to ask questions of the interviewer. Plan to arrive fifteen minutes before your scheduled interview appointment.

Schedule an on-campus interview (please allow several weeks advance notice)

By telephone: (540) 458-8710

If you cannot make the trip to Lexington, you may interview with a member of our Alumni Admissions Program in or near your hometown. The alumni selected for our Alumni Admissions Committees are trained by Admissions staff and are as well equipped to answer your questions about Washington and Lee. There is no preference between an on-campus interview with a member of the admissions staff or and off-campus interview with an Alumni Admissions Program representative, but students should only complete one interview. Most international applicants are not able to complete an interview and we do not offer Skype or phone interviews. Please note, though, that alumni interviews are only available from the fall of your senior year through February 1st. You should contact the chairperson of your AAP committee at least two weeks in advance to secure an appointment and remember that these AAP committee members are volunteers, so it is best to be patient with your requests.
