Research

Washington and Lee offers a number of distinctive opportunities for undergraduate students to engage in and present research during their time on campus. Research opportunities include:

• R.E. Lee Undergraduate Research Program
  • Summer research opportunity to assist a professor in research or carryout a student-planned project under the supervision of a professor. 
• Student Summer Independent Research (SSIR)
  • Summer research opportunity for students in the social sciences, humanities, and the arts. 
• Johnson Opportunity Grants
  • The grant will support students in a variety of off-campus summer projects which will help them in their chosen careers and fields of study.
• Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowships
  • Research grants from HHMI, a non-profit medical research organization dedicated to discovering and disseminating new knowledge in the basic life sciences. 
• Campus-Community Partnerships for Research (CCPR)
  • The Shepherd Program in Poverty Studies provides support for collaborative research projects involving local non-profits, community groups, and governments working with university professors and students.
• Leyburn Scholars Program
  • Study of and research in Anthropology during the summer or academic year.
