Philosophy Department Mourns Loss of Colleague

The Philosophy Department mourns the loss of Chuck Boggs, Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at Washington and Lee University.

Chuck, W&L class of 1966, joined the Philosophy Department in 1970 while still finishing his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin. He taught courses on Nietzsche, Wittgenstein, Kierkegaard, Philosophy and Literature, Philosophy of Nature, and Ethics and the Environment, as well as the introductory Problems of Philosophy course. He advised numerous student theses on Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, and Wittgenstein, and on topics in ethics and the history of philosophy. He taught for a total of 37 years before retiring in 2007.
