Funding Priorities

The Annual Fund

A hugely important part of the University's Annual Budget, the Annual Fund provides alumni, parents and friends an opportunity to support the University in a way that makes a direct and immediate impact on students, faculty and the campus. The Annual Fund provides critical unrestricted operating support in the University's budget.

Supporting Faculty

The student-faculty relationship is the heart of a W&L education. Washington and Lee has many opportunities to support faculty and affirm the value of great teachers at the University.

Supporting Students

Scholarships help make a W&L education available to a variety of meritorious students throughout the world, and help W&L in its goal of recruiting and supporting students with exceptional personal and intellectual characteristics.

A Campus for the 21st Century

An education for the 21st Century requires a campus for the 21st Century. Our academic spaces must be designed for changing patterns of student learning. At Washington and Lee, physical spaces must also be designed to preserve the close-knit, interpersonal nature of our campus culture.

Strengthening the Curriculum

Washington and Lee is introducing new programs to strengthen its curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate level. At the undergraduate level the University is creating a new Freshman Seminar program and introducing several interdisciplinary programs to broade and deepen its course offerings. In the law school the University is establishing a new third year curriculum called "Bridge to the Profession" that will transform the third year of law school into a more engaging and practical experience for students.
