Lexington is approximately one hour’s drive from the nearest airport located in Roanoke (ROA). Charlottesville (CHO) is one hour and 15 minutes away. Richmond (RIC) is two hours' drive. Dulles (IAD) is approximately 3.5 hours to the north just outside Washington, D.C.

The closest bus station near Dulles Airport (IAD) next to Washington, DC is Springfield, VA or on the north side of Union Station in Washington, D.C. The two closest stations to Lexington are in Roanoke, VA (one hour away) and Charlottesville, VA (1 hour 15 minutes away). Please do not try to take a bus all the way to Lexington.

A little more formalized than the Chinatown bus, this shuttle service travels from NYC to Charlottesville with very few stops in between. They have trips going to NY every two days, and trips returning every alternating day, except on Sunday when there are trips both ways. There is a full schedule available on their website. Cost: $179 round trip.
