Professor Fafatas joined the Williams School faculty in 2006 after completing his Ph.D. in Accounting at the University of Colorado. He has taught a variety of courses at Washington and Lee, but focuses on financial accounting and financial statement analysis. In addition to accounting classes, Professor Fafatas has experience teaching interdisciplinary business courses and was an instructor on a recent spring term abroad class in Nicaragua.
Research by Professor Fafatas focuses on issues related to earnings quality and auditor reputation. His previous work includes analyzing the effects of audit failures on client financial reporting practices, as well as the relationship between country-level market shares and audit fees charged by Big Four accounting firms. More recent research by Professor Fafatas focuses on examining the relationship between measures of ethical citizenship and corporate financial reporting quality.
Professor Fafatas obtained his CPA license in Texas and prior to joining academics he worked for a large public accounting firm in Houston. He lives in Lexington with his wife, Angie, and their three children, Sophia, Dean, and Zoe Evelyn.
