Driving

Lexington is located at the intersection of Interstates 81 and 64. Washington and Lee is less than two miles from the interstate.

If you are traveling from the north or east, follow I-81 to exit 191 (which puts you onto I-64). Next, take exit 55 off I-64. Turn left onto Route 11 south at the stop sign.

If you are traveling from the west, take I-64 to exit 55. Turn right on Route 11 south at the stop sign.

In both cases, once you are on Route 11 south you will drive through three stoplights. After the third stoplight, you will cross the Maury River and bear right onto Route 11 Business. You will pass Virginia Military Institute. After you pass VMI, you will see W&L on your right. Parking is available in the Lee Chapel lot and in another lot immediately beyond it on Jefferson Street (P on the campus map). Remain in the right lane and look for the brick entrance to the parking lot.

To reach the Hampton Inn Col Alto, 401 East Nelson St., from the W&L's Jefferson St parking lots, continue south one block to Nelson Street. Turn left at the light, cross Main St., cross a bridge, go up a slight hill and look to the right at the traffic light.

If you are traveling from the south,  take I-81 to exit 188. Turn west on Route 60, which becomes Nelson St. when you enter Lexington. After you pass a Kroger supermarket on the right, look left at the stoplight for the entrance to the Hampton Inn Col Alto, at 401 East Nelson St. To go to the Washington and Lee campus, continue into town on Nelson St., cross a bridge, and at the second light turn right (north) onto Main St. At the second intersection turn left on Henry St., which leads directly to the Lee Chapel parking lot. Or, you may turn left (south) on Jefferson St. and park in the a larger lot immediately next to it.

Flying

The Roanoke Regional Airport is about fifty miles south of Lexington. US Airways, United, Northwest, and Delta serve the Roanoke Valley. Take I-81 north to Lexington and follow the directions above. Allow an hour to drive from Roanoke to Lexington.

Shuttle service to Lexington is available from Roanoke Airport Transportation Service  (540) 345-7710. Call several days in advance to schedule service. Cost is approximately $65 each way.
