Emmy Mathews ('11), a double major in Philosophy and Business Administration, and Anthony Cardona ('11), a Business Administration major with a minor in Philosophy, have each been awarded a VFIC/Norfolk Southern Scholarship for the remainder of their time at W&L. Each scholarship is worth $10,000, with $5,000 awarded in the junior year and $5,000 in the senior year.
The VFIC/Norfolk Southern Scholarship is awarded to juniors from any of the 15 colleges that make up the Virginia Federation of Independent Colleges who have at least one major in "Economics, Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field" and who are "interested in a career in a Fortune 500 corporate setting". The scholarships are competitive. Only three scholarships were awarded in 2009.
