Federal Stafford Loans

Stafford Loans are federal student loans made available to university students to supplement personal and family resources, scholarships, grants, and work-study. Nearly all students are eligible to receive Stafford loans regardless of credit. Stafford loans may be subsidized by the U.S. Government or unsubsidized depending on the student's need.  Please visit the Federal Loans page for more information.

Subsidized Stafford Loans

  • Low fixed interest rate, as low as 5.60%
  • No payments while enrolled in school or in deferment
  • No interest while enrolled in school or in deferment

Unsubsidized Stafford Loans

  • Fixed Interest rate of 6.8%.
  • No payments while enrolled in school or in deferment.
  • Interested beings accruing after the loan is disbursed to the school.  You are not required to pay the interest while you are in school, but doing so can save you money. If you choose not to pay the interest while in school then the interest is added to the principal balance when the loan enters repayment.

Parent PLUS Loans

Federal Parent PLUS Loans are non-need based loans that help parents and guardians borrow up to the cost of attendance for their undergraduate children.  Eligibility for the PLUS Loan depends on a modest credit check. The interest rate on the PLUS Loan is fixed at 8.5%.  Please visit the Federal Loans page for more information regarding the Parent PLUS Loan application process.

Grad PLUS Loan (Law Students only)

The Graduate PLUS loan, or GradPLUS loan, is a low, fixed interest rate student loan guaranteed by the U.S. Government. The Grad PLUS loan is a non-need credit based loan similar to a private student loan with the benefit of having a fixed interest rate and federal guarantee.

  • Interest rate is fixed at 8.5%
  • GradPLUS payments can be deferred while you are in school
  • Cosigner not required
  • Interest is tax deductible for most grad students
