On 1 September 2004 a Junior was accused of having Failed to Report an Accident to the Proper Authorities. He/She was found Guilty of Conduct Unbecoming a Washington and Lee Student by a vote of 6 to 1 to 1 and of Violating the University's Policy on Alcohol by a vote of 8 to 0.

On 24 October 2004 a Sophomore was accused of throwing Water Balloons at Passersby. He/She was found Guilty of Conduct Unbecoming a Washington and Lee Student by a vote of 7 to 0.
As a result, he/she was
• Placed on Conduct Probation for the remainder of the Academic year;
• Assessed 30 hours of Community Service;
Note: The Student Judicial Council will consider the Respondent Not Guilty upon the completion of the above sanctions. Once he/she has completed the assigned Community Service hours and the period of Conduct Probation is over, the Council will expunge his/her record completely and consider him/her innocent of all charges.

On 1 December 2004 a Sophomore was accused of sending an email message containing content considered threatening by some members of the University Community. He/She was found Not Guilty of Conduct Unbecoming a Washington and Lee Student by a vote of 5 to 4 to 1.
Note: This decision was appealed to the University Board of Appeals. The result of that appeal is below.
The complainant appealed a decision against an individual student on the grounds that the penalty was insufficient. The case involved conduct unbecoming of a Washington and Lee University student.
Outcome: ruled in favor of the complainant sanctioned the student to conduct and social probation and 50 hours of community service.

A Senior was accused of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. He/She was found to have been operating a motor vehicle in Lexington or Rockbridge County with a BAC .10.
He/She was found Guilty of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a vote of 7 to 0, Guilty of Violating the University's Policy on Alcohol by a vote of 7 to 0 and Guilty of Conduct Unbecoming a Washington and Lee Student by a vote of 7 to 0.
As a result, he/she was:
• Placed on Social Probation for the remainder of Winter Term;
• Placed on Conduct Probation until Graduation;
• Assessed 75 hours of community service and
• Assessed a First Strike (the $100 fine normally associated with a Strike was waived)

A Sophomore was accused of Drinking and Driving. He/She was found to have been operating a motor vehicle in Lexington or Rockbridge County with a BAC of .05.
He/She was found Not Guilty of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a vote of 1 to 9, Guilty of Violating the University's Policy on Alcohol by a vote of 10 to 0, Guilty of Conduct Unbecoming a Washington and Lee Student by a vote of 7 to 1 to 2.
As a Result, he/she was
• Assessed 20 hours of community service and
• Assessed a First Strike (all sanctions normally associated with a First Strike except the Conduct Probation were waived.)

In lieu of Suspension, he/she was:
• Assessed a Strike;
• Placed on Social Probation for the remainder of the Academic Year;
• Placed on Conduct Probation until Graduation;
• Assessed Community Service in the following manner (50 hours to be completed by the end of this Academic Year, 40 hours to be completed by the end of Fall Term of 2005, 40 hours to be completed by the end of Winter Term 2006 and 20 hours to be completed by the end of Spring Term 2006.
