Johnson Scholars come from near and far. And Christine "Elise" Hansen earns the title as hometown hero. Elise graduated from Rockbridge County High School, a few miles from the Colonnade of Washington and Lee's front campus. "I live in Lexington, so for the past five years I have witnessed the impact W&L has had on the Lexington community." Now she hopes to leave her impact on the community at W&L. She'll join the Generals' Women's Tennis Team and try out the engineering and Shepherd Poverty programs. "The poverty program seems incredibly relevant in today's world; it can teach me about the difficulties that thousands face and show me how I can help."
