Supervised Study Abroad: Third Year Japanese
JAPN 365 01

This course is designed to introduce the Japanese language and culture to students, to introduce the culture and society of Japan, and to prepare students for fourth-year Japanese study. Classes are held at the Ishikawa Foundation for International Exchange, a prestigious Japanese institution in Kanazawa. Students live with a host family and can experience typical Japanese daily life. The program includes field trips to points of historical interest and many cultural activities.

What's different?

  • One Course: Students now take one and only one course
  • Four Credits: Each academic course is worth four credits
  • Course Load: 4-5 credits
  • No Overloads: No overloads are allowed
  • No Underloads: No underloads are allowed
  • No Pass/Fail: All course must be taken for a letter grade
  • Four Weeks: The term is four weeks long instead of six
  • Earlier Registration: Students register earlier in the winter term (mid-January)
  • Full Engagement: Students will be fully engaged by their single academic course

Timeline:

  • January 21-February 1: Students register for spring term classes
  • April 26: Spring term classes begin
  • May 21: Spring term classes end
  • May 22: Spring Term Examinations
  • May 27: Commencement
