Women in Sport
WGS 150 01

In this course, students use feminist theories and women's studies to examine many aspects of women's participation in sport in the United States. Students examine a range of topics including women's achievements in sport; Title IX and associated arguments for and against its implementation; social and cultural influences on women's participation; gender stereotypes associated with sport; and the role of the media in reinforcing gender-based stereotypes.

What's different?

  • One Course: Students now take one and only one course
  • Four Credits: Each academic course is worth four credits
  • No Overloads: No overloads are allowed
  • Four Weeks: The term is four weeks long instead of six
  • Earlier Registration: Students register earlier in the winter term (mid-January)
  • Full Engagement: Students will be fully engaged by their single academic course

Timeline:

  • October 19-30: Students should meet with their advisors to discuss both their winter AND spring term courses
  • December 2: Pre-registration for spring term classes begins
  • Mid-January: Students register for spring term classes
  • April 26: Spring term classes begin
  • May 21: Spring term classes end
  • May 22: Spring Term Examinations
  • May 27: Commencement
